Bottas kept P1 for the entirety of the race and took the extra point for fastest lap. All of the drivers were on intermediate tyres for the race except for Vettel’s single lap venture on slicks. Verstappen had a lonely race in P2 and Perez took the final spot on the podium after a nice defense on Hamilton earlier in the race.
Hamilton started from P11 after a 10-place grid penalty for going to a fourth engine on the season. He charged his way through the field to P3 before making a controversial stop for a new set of intermediates on lap 51 of 58. Hamilton dropped to P5 behind Leclerc and was not able to make up the place.
Gasly received a harsh 5-second penalty for a lap 1 incident sending Alonso back to P17. Gasly was sandwiched and penalized for running Alonso off the track. Gasly finished P6 ahead of Norris. Mclaren did not have the pace this weekend. Ricciardo finished P13 after failing to get out of Q1 and then taking a penalty for a power unit parts change.
Sainz finished P8 after starting from P19. He was awarded driver of the day for his overtakes moving up the field after taking a grid penalty for a new engine. Stroll had a solid race to finish in P9 and Ocon, the only driver to not pit, rounded out the points.
